NEW SHERIFF’S OFFICE BECOMING CLOSER TO REALITY

Northumberland County’s Board of Supervisors is moving forward with the construction of a new building for the sheriff’s department.
The board reports that Norman Construction, Inc. of Mechanicsville has submitted the lowest bid at $1.8 million. Norman based its bid on plans drawn by William Henry Harris and Associates, a Richmond architectural firm.
At last week’s meeting, supervisors said they now want to know what is needed to get the project started.
Harris advised them that a letter of intent would permit the contractor to begin retaining subcontractors and other things necessary to get the ball rolling.
