In what many view as a bit of irony, Governor Ralph Northam… who is no stranger these days to mounting criticizm over his recent blackface scandal… has proclaimed May “Second Chance Month” in a bid to focus attention on criminal justice reform and inmate reentry programs. Northam released a statement, saying that redemption is a “fundamental American value.” He says his administration is now committed to making sure that former inmates have the support they need to succeed. The governor’s proclamation comes just a few short months after he asked Virginians for a second chance himself… following a blackface scandal so far anyway, has not yet forced him from office. The Democratic governor also recently eliminated the suspension of driver’s licenses for motorists with unpaid court fines and costs… which also has drawn fire from his opponents.
