MOTORBOAT CRASH REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION

A boating accident off Gloucester Point in the York River sent one person to an area hospital and left behind damage to two boats and several docks. The Gazette Journal (www.gazettejournal.net) reports that crews from the Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad were called out after getting the report of the boating accident last Sunday, September 15th, when a boat hit a pier after hitting an anchored sailboat in the mouth of Sarah Creek… destroying a dinghy. Two people on the sailboat… a man and his wife… were not injured. After hitting the sailboat, the motorboat then proceeded to crash through one pier before becoming stuck on a second pier. The operator of the motorboat was treated at the scene, and then airlifted to a local hospital. The cause remains under investigation, because the driver of the motorboat was unconscious at the hospital.
