A boating accident off Gloucester Point in the York River sent one person to an area hospital and left behind damage to two boats and several docks. The Gazette Journal ( reports that crews from the Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad were called out after getting the report of the boating accident last Sunday, September 15th, when a boat hit a pier after hitting an anchored sailboat in the mouth of Sarah Creek… destroying a dinghy. Two people on the sailboat… a man and his wife… were not injured. After hitting the sailboat, the motorboat then proceeded to crash through one pier before becoming stuck on a second pier. The operator of the motorboat was treated at the scene, and then airlifted to a local hospital. The cause remains under investigation, because the driver of the motorboat was unconscious at the hospital.
