Rappahannock Community College plans some 50th Anniversary celebrations. On January 9, 1970, the local board of the newly formed Rappahannock Community College met for the first time to chart the future course for the only institution for higher education in the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula. In the coming year… 2020… RCC will commemorate that meeting with events celebrating the past, present, and future of the College. A ceremony acknowledging this first board meeting will take place in Urbanna in the morning of January 9th. In the afternoon there will be campus-wide celebrations. Then, on Saturday, January 11th from 1 pm to 4 pm, everyone is invited to an Open House celebration at the Glenns campus. A free trolley will leave from the Warsaw campus to take people to the Glenns campus on a first-come, first-served basis. Of course, there will be return trips too. Tours of the Glenns campus will include interactive demos and exhibits, and presentations conducted by RCC faculty. Nursing simulations and history re-enactments are just a few of the day’s events. Other highlights will include a scavenger hunt with the grand prize of a scholarship donated by RCC’s Educational Foundation. There are other events planned for the full year too, and they will be announced as they approach. For more information, visit RCC Turns 50 at www.rappahannock.edu or call (804)333-6824.
