MIDDLESEX STRUGGLES TO MAKE ENDS MEET IN BUDGET STRETCHED THIN BY CLOSURES

In Middlesex County, the Board of Supervisors approved a $26,715,638 FY-21 budget with no tax increases, but not because things are on solid ground. The avoidance of a tax increase… at least for now… is because the county will use $567,638 from the “rainy day” fund to balance the budget. The Southside Sentinal (www.ssentinel.com) reports that the supervisors approved what they admit is a “bare bones” FY-21 budget to help county residents get through the coronavirus related shut downs that have crippled the economy and left many people without jobs, and in some cases, destroyed small family businesses that took in some cases, several generations to build.
