Bon Secours Cancer Institute at Rappahannock General Hospital is pleased to welcome Craig Swainey,MD. Dr. Swainey is board certified in medical oncology and internal medicine. He graduated magna cum laude from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, and received a Bachelor of Science in chemistry. Dr. Swainey earned his medical degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill. He then completed a residency in internal medicine, as well as fellowships in both medical oncology and hospice and palliative medicine from the Virginia
Commonwealth University School of Medicine, Medical College of Virginia, in Richmond. Dr. Swainey specializes in the treatment of advanced cancers, and he has expertise in pain and symptom management, and has a special interest in cancer care in rural areas. Prior to joining Bon Secours, Dr. Swainey worked as an oncologist in the Richmond area, and has served as an outreach oncologist at Rappahannock General Hospital in the past. In his new role, Dr. Swainey collaborates with other members of the Bon Secours cancer team to develop a coordinated treatment plan tailored to the needs of each patient. Dr. Swainey will be seeing patients at the Bon Secours Rappahannock General Hospital Outpatient Infusion Center on Harris Road in Kilmarnock.
