COVID-19 Vaccine Exemption Bills Fail In Senate

Two Virginia Senate bills permitting a parent or guardian to refuse a COVID-19 vaccine for their child citing religious practices will not advance. The Senate Education and Health Committee failed to approve the measures which would have allowed the refusal of the COVID-19 vaccine even if an emergency or epidemic was declared by the State Board of Health. Currently the Virginia Health Commissioner has the authority to issue a mandate for a vaccine in the case of an epidemic.
