Despite Governor Northam’s severe lockdowns and restrictions… viewed as some of the strictest in the country… skyrocketing coronavirus infections are keeping Virginia health officials very busy during the first week of 2021. According to the Virginia Department of Health, five-thousand-387 new cases were added on Wednesday. That data has increased the state’s positivity rate to sixteen-point-seven-percent. Overall, there are 377-thousand-300 total cases in the Commonwealth. That number however, does not indicate the number of people who are actually suffering symptoms, and it is not even close to the number of deaths statewide since last March. Hospitals meanwhile, mostly report that they are seeing an increase in patients, but they are not overloaded and have plenty of capacity remaining at this time.
