Death Penalty One Step Closer To Abolition

The Virginia Senate Judiciary Committee advanced a bill on Monday to eliminate the death penalty. The measure now goes to the Senate Finance Committee and if it is approved there the bill would head to the Senate floor for a full vote possibly sometime next week. Governor Ralph Northam says he will sign the bill. The American Civil Liberties Union says since 1976 Virginia is second in the country in executions with only Texas conducting more.
