Governor Ralph Northam announced Tuesday that nearly $30 million in grants is being awarded through the Virginia Telecommunication Initiative. Around a third of that funding is going to the Northern Neck Planning District Commission and All Points Broadband to construct a network that brings gig-speed internet to nearly 1800 unserved locations including those in Northumberland, Richmond, and Westmoreland counties. Projects were selected through a competitive evaluation process. It’s not clear when construction will begin.
