State opens COVID-19 vaccinations for Virginians 65 and older

Gov. Ralph Northam announced COVID-18 vaccine is now available to Virginians ages 65 and older, as well as others with health issues. Northam says the Virginia Medical Reserve Corps is training volunteers to administer shots and called for anyone with medical training – including retired doctors and other providers – to volunteer. The expansion means about half of the commonwealth’s residents are eligible for the vaccine. Vaccine Coordinator Dr. Danny Avula says they have to reach 50,000 doses a day to establish “herd immunity.”
