The Virginia Department of Elections is ordered to come up with a way to collect required signatures for the primary ballot using contactless methods. The order is the result of a settlement between the department and two candidates who plan to run for state office who sued over COVID-19 concerns. The plaintiffs argued collecting the 10,000 signaturesrequired to become a candidate is not possible during the pandemic. The department has until Feb. 5 to create the collection method.
