Governor Ralph Northam issued an executive order banning all single-use plastics from the state’s agencies, colleges, and universities. The executive order takes effect in 120 days and means plastic bags, straws and cutlery as well as single-use bottles that aren’t used for medical or public-safety uses will no longer be allowed. The goal is to gradually eliminate all non-medical single-use plastics by the end of 2025.
