Individuals convicted on criminal and traffic cases in Lancaster County now have to dig a little deeper into the pockets to pay security assessment fees. The Northern Neck News reports the county doubled the levy from $10 to $20 after the General Assembly approved allowing municipalities to raise the fee. The money is allocated to the sheriff’s office for courtroom security costs and will go to pay the salary of part-time bailiffs.
