Unemployment In Va. Sets New Record

It’s been a year since mass layoffs began due to COVID-19 and the Virginia Employment Commission said Thursday that the number of initial unemployment claims filed since then exceeded the total number filed during the past three economic recessions in 1990, 2001 and 2007. 1.5 million claims were made since the March 21, 2020 filing week. Claims declined the week of Mar. 6 but went up last week.
