Virginia is leading the nation in the most Confederate symbols, statues and monuments removed in 2020. Southern Poverty Law Center says the state took down 71 of them last year. Virginia was also the only state to get rid of a Confederate symbol before the death of George Floyd. Virginia is followed by North Carolina with 24 monuments removed, and Alabama and Texas which tied for third with 12 taken down. The changes include school names, building names, plaques and highways.
