Machicomoco State Park Is Now Open

Governor Ralph Northam was in Gloucester County on Friday for the opening of Machicomoco State Park, Virginia’s 40th state park. The 645-acre site overlooking the York River that was once known as Timberneck Farm is the first state park celebrating and honoring the history and legacy of the Native Tribes of Virginia. Machicomoco is an Algonquin word meaning “special meeting place”. The park’s manager is Terry Sims who most recently was with the Texas State Parks agency.
