“Voting Rights Act of Virginia”Signed Into Law

On Wednesday Governor Ralph Northam signed the “Voting Rights Act of Virginia” into law. The measure requires state election officials to get prior approval before making changes to voting rules which supporters say will help stop voter suppression. Northam said at a time when voting rights are under attack across the country, Virginia is expanding access to the ballot box, not restricting it. The commonwealth is the first state to enact its own version of a voting rights act.
