Virginia Unveils Mental Health Access Program

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and Gov. Ralph Northam and Secretary of Health and Human Resources Dr. Daniel Carey announced the new Virginia Mental Health Access Program. It provides education to primary care providers on managing pediatric mental health along with increasiong access to child psychiatrists,psychologists and social workers and assists patient families with navigating the availability of additional mental health resources. More than 500 primary care providers have enrolled to the VMAP consult line with more than 1,000 consultations already having been provided.
