The sales tax in Gloucester County will inccrease by 1% as of tomorrow. That will bring the rate to 6.3% which includes the 4.3% state tax, the 1% local option tax, and the 1% additional which by law can only be used for capital projects for the construction or renovation of schools. The 2020 Virginia General Assembly approved the ability for localities to increase the sales and use tax. Taxes don’t apply to groceries or essential personal hygiene products.
