New ABC Laws Go Into Effect July 1

Starting Thursday the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority will begin enforcing new laws passed by the Virginia General Assembly during its 2021 session. They include allowing restaurants to continue selling cocktails to go, permitting delivery of wine and beer without a permit for the rest of the year and enabling localities to create special large outdoor entertainment districts where consumption of alcohol would be allowed. So-called games of skill are also prohibited beginning Thursday.
