Northern Neck Electric Cooperative president and CEO Brad Hicks represented Virginia’s electric cooperatives as Governor Ralph Northam signed a broadband access bill into law on June 9. It allows investor-owned electric utilities to recover costs of and revenue from expanding broadband to unserved areas and enables electric cooperatives to create partnerships with other investor-owned electric utilitiesto establish broadband in their service areas. Last year NNEC entered into an agreement with Dominion Energy and All Points Broadband to aid in Broadband deployment.
