Northam Issues ED To Clean Up Cheasapeake Bay

Governor Ralph Northam signed an executive directive commiting Virginia’s agencies and higher education institutions to significantly reduce the amount of nitrogen and phosphorous that flows into the Chesapeake Bay. Officials say the polluted runoff occurs when stormwater moves over the ground collecting excess nutrients, sediment, and toxins that degrade water quality and harm living resources. The State Lands Watershed Implementation Plan calls for achieving clean water goals by 2025.
