Federal prosecutors receive a delay in setting a trial date for 2 Mathews County residents charged in the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol riots. According to the Gazette-Journal a judge scheduled a status conference on July 1 for the case against Cindy Fitchett and Doug Sweet because prosecutors still need to sift through substantial video evidence and share it with the defense. The 2 are charged with knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, and engaging in disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.
