Virginia State Police report an increase in phone scams targeting convicted sex offenders. The fraudsters portray themselves as a Virginia State Police sergeant and threatening individuals into paying hundreds of dollars in gift cards or else they will be arrested. Investigators say the callers even alter their ID so it looks like a legitimate call from State Police. If you get one of these calls hang up and ontact your local law enforcement agency or the Virginia State Police.
