A man from Mathews continues his rehabilitation from breaking 2 bones in his cervical spine during a dive into the East River. According to the Gazette-Journal William Scott Smith dove off his 25-foot skiff and when he resurfaced Smith wasn’t moving. Smith’s friends who were on an adjacent vessel got him to safety then paramedics took him to the hospital. Smith is now undergoing rehab in Atlanta which could take as long as 8 weeks.
