Cigarettes will cost more in Middlesex County starting Aug. 1. According to the Southside Sentinel both the County Board of Supervisors and Urbanna Town Council voted to join the Chesapeake Bay Region Cigarette Tax Board to levy a 40-cents-a-pack tax. Urbanna will receive the tax collected in town, while the county will collect the tax outside of Urbanna’s border. Lawmakers in Lancaster and Westmoreland Counties and the town of Montross are also levying new cigarette taxes.
