The Middle Peninsula African-American Genealogical and Historical Society is holding a dedication ceremony for a state historical highway marker recognizing the acts of the Stingray Point Contraband in 1861. Society president Bessida White tells the Rappahannock Record the Contraband were 6 enslaved black men who self-emancipated by taking shelter in the Stingray Point Lighthouse and hailing a Union ship. The ceremony is July 17 at 11:00 a.m. in front of the Deltaville Community Association on General Puller Highway.
