Urbanna’s Mayor Can Vote On Town Council Matters

It’s now official: Urbanna Mayor Barbara Hartley is permitted to vote in the town council’s proceedings. According to the Southside Sentinel that word came down from Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring after the town council’s attorney questioned the legality of mayoral votes due to the town’s charter. Herring said the charter does not prohobit having the mayor vote. Lawmakers decided to pause having Hartley vote until Herring issued his decision.
