Virginia will take $700 million from its American Rescue Plan funding passed by Congress to speed up broadband internet deployment to unserved areas. According to Gov. Ralph Northam’s office this additional funding will shave 4 years off the governor’s 10-year goal for achieving universal internet access from 2028 to 2024. Northam’s office says Virginia is on track to be one of the first states in the country to achieve universal broadband service.
