Virginia COVID-19 vaccine coordinator Dr. Danny Avula says officials are monitoring the federal-level discussions about booster doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines for the general population. Last week the FDA and CDC approved third doses for those with compromised immune systems. Avula says if boosters are approved for the general population the rollout will likely take several months, as the expected recommendation is that a booster dose should be given within a defined time frame after the second dose.
