The Virginia Department of Health reports over 7,000 new COVID-19 cases were reported over the weekend. Officials say the surge is a result of the Delta variant. There have been 28 additional COVID-19 related deaths recorded between last Friday and Monday. Just over 63% have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose, with nearly 56% fully vaccinated. The department says they hope to see those numbers increase now that the Pfizer vaccine received full FDA approval.
