The numbers are in from the 2020 Census and Gloucester County population is up bt 5% while Mathews County lost 5% of its population. The Gazette-Journal reports Gloucester has around 38,700 residents and has recorded a population gain with each census since 1940. Mathews’ population is just over 8,500 down by around 1,700 from the highest number recorded in 2000. Middlesex County recorded a population loss of around 3%.
