Enrollment in Virginia’s two largest state-funded preschool programs is expected to reach historic levels for the upcoming school year. Virginia Department of Education officials say the Virginia Preschool Initiative and the Virginia Early Childhood Foundation’s Mixed Delivery Preschool Grant Program anticipate serving more than 25,000 three and four-year-olds this fall as parents return to in-office work and students return to in-person instruction. Families with young children earning up to 85 percent of the state median income are temporarily eligible for Virginia’s Child Care Subsidy Program.
