An 80-year-old man died in a fire at a Mathews building that happened on Sunday. According to the Mathews County Sheriff’s office the man’s body was found inside the Gayle Lane building but it’s nor clear if the man died as a result of the fire. The Sheriff’s Office asked the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation Arson Unit to conduct an inquiry. The man’s identity is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.
