In about a month you will need to dial the 804 area code when making local calls. That’s due to the creation of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline which uses the number 988 which is also an exchange in the 804 area code. The official start date for 10-digit-dialing is Oct. 24. The new lifeline 3-digit number is to go into effect nationally by the middle of next July.
