Expanding high-speed internet access in Mathews County is moving forward now that the Board of Supervisors approved a memorandum of understanding with the Mathews Volunteer Fire Department and Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad for the construction of communications towers at their locations. According to the Gazette-Journal the county will retain the ownership of the towers and will provide monthly financial compensation to both the fire department and rescue squad for the use of their property. The towers will not interfere with emergency operations.
