Virginia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for August is 4% which is down two-tenths from July and 3 percentage points lower than a year ago. The work force increased last month by 5,550 to 4.25 million and the number unemployed dropped by close to 7,700. Virginia’s unemployment rate continues to be below the national rate of 5.2%. Private sector employment increased by 1,500 jobs in August and there were 9,000 public sector jobs added last month.
