The Virginia Department of Forestry is asking the public to collect and donate nuts of 12 species to be planted at the state nursery. According to the Southside Sentinel the seeds will produce next year’s hardwood seedling crop, which will be sold to Virginia’s forestland owners. Go to dof.virginia.gov for a list of species needed then place the nuts in a breatheable bag before bringing them to a DOF office. Dropoff deadline is Oct. 15.
