The renovations at the New Point Comfort Lighthouse in Mathews County are now complete with the lighting of the lighthouse beacon last week. The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports a ceremony was held on Tuesday and a miscue caused the beacon to be lighted while Gary Wayne Brownley was giving the dedication address so it cut his speech short. Brownley is a friend of the late Earl Soles who spearheaded the lighthouse renovation after it was dark for a half-centure.
