The Virginia Lottery reports sports wagering for August was over $180 million which is about 13% higher than July. Bettors took home over $171 million. Since betting began in Januaruy more than $1.48 billion was wagered on everything from baseball to preseason NFL football. There are 8 licensed operators in Virginia and state law imposes a 15% tax based on each operator’s adjusted gross revenue. For August that was nearly $1.4 million and since January Virginia has raked in around $11 million.
