Virginia’s General Fund revenue for September increased 18.4% from the previous year. Payroll withholding tax collections were up by close to 10% last month while corporate income tax collections increased by more than 41%. On a year-to-date basis, collections of payroll withholding taxes grew by 9.7% which is well above the annual estimate of 1.7%. The collections of wills, suits, deeds, and contracts were up 9% percent in the first quarter of the fiscal year outperforming the forecasted 31.3% decline.
