With the switch in House of Delegates control to Republicans the new majority party nominates 15th District Del. Todd Gilbert to serve as House speaker. The nomination will be voted on when the General Assembly convenes for the 2022 session in January. Democrats lost 5 seats to Republicans with 2 races uncalled but GOP candidates each have slim leads. If they both win Republicans will have a 52-48 majority.
