The Virginia Lottery reports sports bettors wagered nearly $294 million in September. That’s a 61% increase from the previous month. Other places with legal sports wagering have reported similar increases from August to September tied to wagering activity related to the beginning of the professional and college football seasons. Winners took home close to $263 million last month. Since betting started Jan. 21 a combined total of more than $1.9 billion in bets were placed.
