VDOH To Use Wastewater Testing For COVID-19 Detection

The Virginia Department of Health is working with the University of Virginia’s Biocomplexity Institute to employ wastewater testing as a way to detet COVID-19 infection in a community. According to the Danville Register & Bee the department is deploying more than 2 dozen wastewater collection sites across the commonwealth but it’s not clear where those locations are. Officials say if the COVID-19 virus is detected in wastewater it can provide an early warning so testing can start.
