Audit Determines Virginia Fails To Provide Proper Language Access To Services

Virginia’s Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission finds the commonwealth’s agencies are not competent at providing information to the almost half a million residents who speak little to no English. According to the RIchmond Times-Dispatch the commission is urging the General Assembly to invest in making government services more accessible to those for whom English is not their first language. Virginia law currently prohibits state and local agencies from being required to provide non-English materials.
