The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency chooses the Westmoreland County site of a former cosmetic case factory to be included in the Superfund cleanup which is a part of the recently-passed federal instructure bill. According to the Virginiq Mercury around $8.3 million is scheduled to go toward cleanup of groundwater and soil contamination at the former Arrowhead Associates/Scovill Manufacturing site which is southeast of Montross. The site was added to the Superfund list 35 years ago.
