Around 100 Middlesex County property owners who were not happy about the new assessed values filed complaints with officials. According to the Southside Sentinel reassesments are done every 4 to 5 years with the last taking effect in January of 2017. The county’s third party firm which did the reassesments says Virginia law requires properties to be appraised at 100% market value and that’s why the increases for some owners were so steep.
