GA Considering Sales Tax Increase For School Construction

Virginia lawmakers are considering legislation allowing cities and counties to implement up to a 1% sales tax increase to pay for repairing or building schools. The measure requires a local referendum to implement the tax. 8 localities currently have the sales tax hike implemented. According to a Virginia Department of Education survey over half of the commonwealth’s school buildings were built more than 5 decades ago and replacing all would cost $25 billion. The Senate could vote on the measure today.
