House Of Delegates Kills Sales-Tax-For-Schools Bill

The House of Delegates will not be voting on a proposal to allow all cities and counties to implement a 1% sales increase to pay for school construction or renovation. The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports the measure failed to make it out of committee. 8 counties including Gloucester County were previously approved for the increase. Proponents of the now-defeated bill say it will cost nearly $25 billion to replace school buildings over 50 years old.
